ANOTHER TRIP (by Matt)

Global Hand truly is global. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend two events in Geneva.

I really don't feel worthy of involvement in all this. I'm just amazed by what it is becoming.

The first event was a trade fair for companies who supply materials to large non-profit groups and UN bodies. Global Hand was donated a display stall at this event for the second year in a row. Event though this year's conference was smaller, the Global Hand booth was swamped with interest. It was particularly encouraging to hear praise for Global Hand from people who I would not have expected to have even heard of it, including the head of logistics for the Red Cross USA who has been using the site for 6 months!

The second event was a Global Hand conference introducing a number of new groups to the network and nutting out ways of further developing it in Eastern Europe.

While in Geneva Mal, Sal and I also had a lengthy meeting with staff of the UN's Relief Web. It was a treat for me to wander around the UN Palais de Nations on "official business". There is a lovely atmosphere inside the Palais. The hubbub of conversation in the cafeteria is striking because dozens of languages are being spoken within earshot. The meeting itself was immensely useful as Relief Web staff freely shared their experience in creating online resources for development work.

And yes, I did get to take in some of the splendour of the region. The conference venue, arranged by a local Swiss member of Global Hand, was in a picturesque spot just outside of Geneva on the lake. Even better, the day before departure, I was able (with a little help) to get down to Chamonix in France, for some hours on slopes around Mt Blanc. Now THAT was an unexpected treat! Again, I don't feel worthy of all this... it blows my mind.

On a slightly different topic, I'm struggling to stay on top of things at the moment. My areas of Global Hand and I.T. are growing fast but we have fewer full-time staff in those areas now than we did a few months ago. I do appreciate the support and encouragement people have been giving.
